2 Samuel 23:1 (KJV) Now these be the last words of David. David the son of Jesse said, and the man who was raised up on high, the anointed of the God of Jacob, and the sweet psalmist of Israel, said: “The Spirit of the LORD spoke by me, and HIS WORD WAS IN MY TONGUE.”

David gave himself some credentials and said that the Word of God was upon his tongue. David prophesied that the Spirit spoke by him and the Word of the LORD was in his tongue. It is because of the Spirit in him that he could speak – the Spirit gave him Words. Ephesians 6:17 says that we must take up the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. David said that he was anointed and was raised on high just because the Spirit worked in and by him and therefore the Word was in his mouth. If you want the Word of God to bubble out of your mouth, you need to have the Spirit inside. If you do not have the Spirit inside, the Word becomes void of glory and of power. Many people can quote the Bible, but with no power. The Spirit that is on the inside of us makes the Word powerful.

Hebrews 4:12 (Amplified) For the WORD that GOD SPEAKS is alive and full of power [making it active, operative, energizing, and effective]; it is SHARPER than ANY TWO-EDGED SWORD, penetrating to the dividing line of the breath of life (soul) and [the immortal] spirit, and of joints and marrow [of the deepest parts of our nature], EXPOSING and SIFTING and ANALYZING and JUDGING the very thoughts and purposes of the heart.

The Word cuts and divides the soul and the spirit. It is the Spirit Word that discerns the intents of the heart. It exposes the thoughts of our heart to see whether it comes from the soul or our spirit. There is a difference between soulish thoughts and spiritual power. In your spirit you have a conscience that thinks. In your soul you have your mind that thinks. Your body has a brain to think with.

You have to get the Word to cut between the spirit and the soul to discern where the thoughts come from. We must have the right thoughts to live a higher life. (Isaiah 55:10-11)

2 Peter 1:21 (Amplified) For NO PROPHECY ever ORIGINATED because some man willed it [to do so-it never came by human impulse], but men spoke from God who were borne along (moved and impelled) BY THE HOLY SPIRIT.

David was not arrogant when he spoke and said that the Word was on his tongue. The Spirit must bring the Word and that brings a cutting in your life to discern whether you are thinking God’s thoughts or fleshly thoughts. When you get into the Spirit Word, your words become powerful.

1 Peter 1:10-11 (Amplified) The prophets, who PROPHESIED of the grace (divine blessing) which was intended for you, searched and inquired earnestly about this salvation. They sought [to find out] to whom or when this was to come which the SPIRIT OF CHRIST WORKING WITHIN THEM was indicating when He predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories that should follow [them].

The Spirit of Christ was working within the prophets of the Old Testament. The Spirit of God came upon them, but it had to enter them. The Spirit within brought the Word out. The Spirit came upon the prophets of the Old Testament and then entered them, but it did not abide with them. In the New Testament the Spirit came upon, within and abides continually. In the Book of Ezekiel is said that the Spirit came upon and then entered him. Micah said he was strong because of the Spirit within. Moses prophesied and asked for someone with the Spirit within him. Joshua had the Spirit within him.

It is the Spirit of Christ that caused the prophets to prophesy. Revelation is a prophetic book on the life of Jesus Christ. It is not a revelation on the end times and the anti-Christ. It is about Jesus Christ. In the last few books it said that the Spirit of Jesus is the Spirit of Prophecy.

1 Peter 1:12 (Amplified) It was then disclosed to them that the services they were rendering were NOT MEANT FOR THEMSELVES and their period of time, but for YOU. [It is these very] things which have now already been made known plainly to you by those who preached the good news (the Gospel) to you by the [SAME] HOLY SPIRIT sent from heaven. Into these things [the very] angels long to look!

Jesus said that He sent us another Comforter that it is the same Spirit. Jesus is the Christ and we are Christians; we have the Spirit of Christ. ‘Christ’ means the ‘Anointing’ or the ‘Anointed One.’ Jesus sent us the exact same Spirit He had – the same Spirit that made Jesus, the Christ. That is why Jesus said we can do the works He did and even greater works also. Jesus was born as ‘Jesus’ but when He was baptized and the Spirit descended upon Him, He became the ‘Christ’ and when He rose from the dead, He became ‘Lord.’ We are now Christ-ians – the same as Him – Christians, who realized that they have the same Spirit as Jesus, have the authority and they rise up to their responsibility.

Paul said that if someone comes to you with another Jesus or another Christ or another Spirit, let him be accursed. Christ is in us. When you have the Spirit of Christ in you, you have the Spirit of prophecy and then you can take the Word and speak it.

We are very privileged people, because the angels long to see a man rising with Christ in him. They want to see a man, who takes the prophetic Word and realizes that it was for him. You can stand up and be the anointed of God on the earth today so that your shadows can heal the sick and drive out the demons.

1 Peter 1:13 (Amplified) So BRACE UP YOUR MINDS; be sober (circumspect, morally alert); set your hope wholly and unchangeably on the grace (divine favor) that is coming to you when JESUS CHRIST (the Messiah) IS REVEALED.

Christ must be revealed on the inside of us, but we must get our minds right so that Christ can be revealed in us. The prophets prophesied because of the Spirit within. We have now the same Holy Spirit, but we must get our minds sober so that Christ can be revealed. The natural mind cannot take it that Christ can be revealed in and through normal human beings.

Amos 8:11 says there will come a time that people will be hungry for the Word. 1 Samuel 3 says that the Word was rare in those days and it was not yet revealed unto Samuel. The Word was scarce in Samuel’s days and in Amos it said that there would be a time that the Word will be scarce. There were not many visions. Over and over in the Old Testament the Word came to the people. Samuel slept in the place where the Ark was, in the Most Holy Place and the Word came to him. The Word kept on coming to the prophets. Jesus Christ is the Word. When the Spirit of Christ entered them, the Word entered them. John 1:14 says that the Word became flesh and dwelt among us. When you accept Christ or the Anointing into your heart, you accept the Holy Spirit and that makes you a Christian. When you accept Christ, Who is the Anointed part of Jesus into your heart, you accept Jesus Christ as your LORD. When the Spirit entered the prophets, you can say that the Word came to them or the Spirit came upon them. It is all the same thing. As the Spirit came, the Word came; by the Spirit they spoke the Word.

What is the Word that was scarce? Was it the written Word, the fact that Jesus is LORD or the Word inside that you can speak and there is power? When Jesus was tempted in the desert inMatthew 4:4 & Luke 4:4, He said that it is written that man shall not live by bread alone, but by every Word that proceeds from the mouth of God (Deuteronomy 8:3). A ‘proceeding Word’ means that it is a Word that keeps on coming. Samuel walked, then the Word would come and then he spoke. As he went further, the Word would come again. We ought to live by the proceeding Word of God.

Many people have a first Word, but they never deal with the proceeding Word. The Word comes as a sharp two-edged sword. It cuts and divides the soul and the spirit and discerns the thoughts of the heart. Man lives by the proceeding Word. The proceeding Word splits the soul and the spirit. The soul thought is doubt but the spirit’s thought is a proceeding Word. When you are faced with a proceeding Word, it is easy to act on the first Word. You are challenged on every prophetic Word that you have ever had or every Word that you are standing on. It is easy to take the first Word. You hear the Word to buy a house. You go and do it and everything works out. Then you must get a proceeding Word on how to pay for it. Every time the proceeding Word comes, you are challenged with a choice. You must choose to listen either to your soul or your spirit.

You only have a challenge because the Word came to you. If the Word did not come you would not have had a challenge. The world goes on and it seems as if they are doing well, because they are not challenged and there are no choices. There is no Word that divides and cuts. If they want to get rich they can become it, but we are faced with challenges because of a Word and a proceeding Word. Some people have mustard seed faith and they grow, but others just have faith.

2 Kings 20:1 (KJV) In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And the PROPHET Isaiah the son of Amoz came to him, and said unto him: “THUS SAYS THE LORD, Set thy house in order; for thou shall die, and not live.”

A prophet speaks because of the Spirit of Christ that enters him. Then his words are with power. This prophet told Hezekiah that the LORD spoke. That was the first Word.

2 Kings 20:2-4 (KJV) Then he turned his face to the wall, and prayed unto the LORD, saying: “I beseech thee, O LORD, remember now how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight.” And Hezekiah wept sore. And it came to pass, BEFORE ISAIAH WAS GONE OUT into the middle court, that THE WORD OF THE LORD CAME TO HIM, saying…

A second Word came before he left the door.

2 Kings 20:5 (KJV) Turn again, and tell Hezekiah the captain of my people: “THUS SAYS THE LORD, the God of David thy father. I have heard thy prayer. I have seen thy tears: behold, I will heal thee: on the third day thou shall go up unto the house of the LORD.”

Now Isaiah was challenged with what the people would say of the proceeding Word and what about the first Word. He was challenged with what people would say about him. The Spirit of Prophecy is the Spirit of Christ and when He comes to you, you are faced with choices.

2 Kings 20:6(a) (KJV) And I will add unto thy days fifteen years…

How many times have you said, “The LORD said…?” Then the next day you received a proceeding Word that is contrary to what you said the first time. You are then challenged to do the wrong thing and miss God for the fear of what people say or speak the proceeding Word. People will say that God is not schizophrenic, but He sometimes wants to see whether you are obedient or not. Obedience is better than a sacrifice. God wants to use you three years from now but if you are not obedient, He cannot.

Sometimes you must do the first Word before God will give you a proceeding Word. You may seek God’s face for a Word and He might tell you to do the first Word before He will give a proceeding Word. So many people come and do something on the account of a first Word and then they have to make choices. It is then that you have to let the Word cut and divide and then you have to make a choice whether you will listen to the soul and doubt or hear the Spirit and go on with a proceeding Word. If you cannot go with the first Word, you cannot have a proceeding Word. When the proceeding Word is there, take it and do not doubt.

It must have been tough for Isaiah to first tell a man that he was going to die and then turn around and tell him that he was going to live. People will say that he is a false prophet. Do not use this to make excuses for your faults when you’ve missed God.

1 Kings 17:1 (KJV) And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As the LORD God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to MY WORD.

That was the first Word.

1 Kings 17:2-3 (KJV) And the WORD OF THE LORD came unto him, saying: “Get thee hence, and turn thee eastward, and hide thyself by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.”

That was the second Word. Elijah said according to his word it shall not rain. It was HIS word, because he actually said that his word is God’s Word. The second Word came and said that he had to go to the brook. He could choose to stand in the palace, but God said that he must go to the river.

God told Jeremiah and Isaiah that He put His Word in their mouths. Reinhardt Bonnke was putting up a tent when God told him that His Word in Reinhardt’s mouth was as good as His Word in His Mouth – it is just as powerful. When God tells you that He has put His Word in your mouth, do not say that you are too young.

1 Kings 17:4-6 (KJV) And it shall be, that thou shall drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there. So he went and DID ACCORDING UNTO THE WORD OF THE LORD: for he went and dwelt by the brook Cherith that is before Jordan. And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening; and he drank of the brook.

The whole house of Israel was suffering with drought, because there was no rain, but Elijah had a revival. He had a Word from God and he obeyed the proceeding Word.

1 Kings 17:7 (KJV) And it came to pass after a while, that THE BROOK DRIED UP, because there had been no rain in the land.

Your prophecies are challenged; the Word you are standing on is challenged: you may have the Word to do something and you do it and then suddenly nothing works out. It is because the brook ran dry. You have to find a proceeding Word and not try to find out where you have missed it with the previous Word. Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every Word that proceeds out of the mouth of God. You live by the proceeding Word.

1 Kings 17:8,9 (KJV) And THE WORD OF THE LORD came unto him, saying: “Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongs to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee.”

People come with those prophetic books and they tell you that they had the same prophecies over and over and that they have done all the things, but now all has gone wrong. When the brook runs dry, do not complain about the bread and the water, but get a proceeding Word that will you to go on. When God told you to go to Bloemfontein and you are in Cape Town, your next Word is waiting in Bloemfontein. When you come there, the widow woman may only bake you one cake. It is not your barrel that will not run dry; it was her barrel that did not run dry. The widow gave Elijah only one cake and then he had to move.

How are you living? Is the Sword cutting through so that the Spirit can speak in you? Thousands of Christians are missing God’s perfect will for their lives because they cannot run with the proceeding Word of God in their lives.

1 Kings 17:24 (KJV) And the woman said to Elijah, Now by this I know that thou art a man of God, and that the word of the LORD in thy mouth is truth.

After the woman’s son died and Elijah raised him from the dead, the woman came and told him that she could see that the Word of God was truth in his mouth. People must see that the Word of God is with us. Jehoshaphat saw that the Word of the LORD was in Elisha’s mouth.

1 Kings 18:1,2 (KJV) And it came to pass after many days, that the WORD OF THE LORD came to Elijah in the third year, saying, Go, show thyself unto Ahab; and I will send rain upon the earth. And Elijah went to show himself unto Ahab. And there was a sore famine in Samaria.

There was no rain even when Elijah showed himself to Ahab. He did exactly what God said, but God wanted to have duel on the mountain between the priests of Baal and His own. The eight hundred priests prayed all day long and nothing happened, but Elijah only prayed one prayer, fire came down and God answered him. God only told Elijah to show himself to Ahab, but now all these things happened and still there was no rain.

1 Kings 18:36-45 (KJV) And it came to pass at the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that Elijah the prophet came near, and said: “LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, let it be known this day that thou art God in Israel, and that I am thy servant, and that I have done all these things at Thy Word.” “Hear me, O LORD, hear me, that this people may know that thou art the LORD God, and that thou has turned their heart back again.” Then the fire of the LORD fell, and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench. And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces: and they said, The LORD, he is the God; the LORD, he is the God. And Elijah said unto them, Take the prophets of Baal; let not one of them escape. And they took them: and Elijah brought them down to the brook Kishon, and slew them there. And Elijah said unto Ahab, Get thee up, eat and drink; for there is a sound of abundance of rain. So Ahab went up to eat and to drink. And Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; and he cast himself down upon the earth, and put his face between his knees, and said to his servant, Go up now, look toward the sea. And he went up, and looked, and said, There is nothing. And he said: “Go again seven times.” And it came to pass at the seventh time, that he said: “Behold, there arises a little cloud out of the sea, like a man’s hand.” And he said: “Go up, say unto Ahab, Prepare thy chariot, and get thee down, that the rain stop thee not.” And it came to pass in the mean while, that the heaven was black with clouds and wind, and there was a great rain. And Ahab rode, and went to Jezreel.

What battle did you have to fight to get your prophetic word into fulfillment or are you looking for an excuse for the root of doubt in your heart? In Matthew 14 Peter had faith to act on the Word of Jesus and he started to walk on the water, but then he was challenged with a choice to doubt or to go on. Your soul looks at the waves and you begin to waver. When you cry for help from God, He will be there to strengthen your faith.

Elijah had to pray seven times, but how long are we prepared to pray for our prophetic words? Sometimes it takes years, but never doubt and say, “Why?” or “Have I’ve heard wrong?” or “Must we do something else?” When you get out of the high way of the center of God’s will for your life, the lions will start to attack you. Stick to the Word that God gave you, till He gives you another Word.

When we still held our meetings in a tent, it started to deteriorate quickly and we had to get another one. I went to Durban to buy another one, knowing that God told me that it had to be a blue and white tent. When I got there, a man told me that he had a tent that was already made, that was much cheaper than the tent that we were to get from another company. The only difference: This tent was red and grey. The Spirit inside told me that it was not blue and white, but I thought that God would not mind if the tent was red and grey and so I bought it for R4000 instead of R30 000 (the price of the blue and white one). After I came home with the red and grey tent, we had held meetings in the tent for two weeks when a storm arose and blew the tent away. It was torn to pieces. People came to me and told me to rebuke the storm, but I knew that it was God. I had to obey God in buying the right color tent. People say that God would not do such things, but I knew it was Him. When I went back to the right color and ordered it, it was delivered two weeks later and we paid it cash. When we listened to the proceeding Word, the money came; it was when we doubt and bought the cheap one, that it blew away.

What are you going through, because you are not listening to the proceeding Word?

1 Kings 19:1-3(a) (KJV) And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and withal how he had slain all the prophets with the sword. Then Jezebel sent a messenger unto Elijah, saying, So let the gods do to me and more also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by to morrow about this time. And when he saw that, he arose, and WENT FOR HIS LIFE…

Elijah had just killed eight hundred men when a woman came and told him that she was going to kill him. He heard from the LORD and slew those men, but now he didn’t spend time with God to hear from Him.

1 Kings 19:5-8 (KJV) And as he lay and slept under a juniper tree, behold, then an angel touched him, and said unto him, Arise and eat. And he looked, and, behold, there was a cake baked on the coals, and a cruse of water at his head. And he did eat and drink, and laid him down again. And the angel of the LORD came again the second time, and touched him, and said: “Arise and eat; because the journey is too great for thee.” And he arose, and did eat and drink, and WENT IN THE STRENGTH OF THAT MEAT forty days and forty nights unto Horeb the mount of God.

God helped Elijah to run away. If you want to run away, God will give you supernatural power to run. He will help you run to England and back if you want to run away, but you will come back a broken person. If you are so sick and tired of the fight that you are in, that you’ll go and try to make a living somewhere else, God will help you to get there, but it doesn’t mean that He told you to go.

1 Kings 19:9-10 (KJV) And he came thither unto a cave, and lodged there; and, behold, the WORD OF THE LORD came to him, and He said unto him: “WHAT DOEST THOU HERE, Elijah?” And he said, I have been very jealous for the LORD God of hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.

When you have run far enough, God will ask you what you are doing there. You will feel bad and want everyone around you to see it. Elijah was feeling sorry for himself and said that he was the only one left, but he was lying, because he was not the only prophet that was left.

1 Kings 19:11 (KJV) And he said, go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD PASSED BY, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake.

In Exodus 34 Moses was at the exact same place and the same situation happened as with Elijah. He was also in the cave and God told him to go and stand upon the mountain before the LORD. The LORD passed by and the rock broke before the LORD in an earthquake, a wind and a fire.

Elijah did not find God in the earthquake, the wind and the fire although it was the LORD that passed by.

1 Kings 19:12-13 (KJV) And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a STILL SMALL VOICE. And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave. And, behold, there came a voice unto him, and said: “What does thou here, Elijah?”

When God asks you what you are doing in the place that you have run to, you will find all kinds of excuses. God did not tell you to go, but He will still speak to you if you want to listen. You will start to seek God in signs, wonders and miracles and all the ways that God spoke previously. When everything gets quiet or when you come to yourself like the prodigal son in Luke 15, you will hear His voice. Elijah came to himself and wondered what he was doing there.

The words “there came” is not in the original text and what the sentence means is that the voice spoke within him and told him that God already spoke to him. He came to himself and asked himself what he was doing with the Word. What are you doing with what God is saying to you? When Elijah came to himself, God immediately started to speak and direction came. He had to go down, anoint the king and also anoint Elisha as a prophet. Elijah had a fresh breath in his ministry and prophesied for another couple of years (1 Kings 21).

He went back to Ahab and prophesied Jezebel’s death. All the people recognized that Elijah was back. He came to himself and decided to go with the proceeding Word. What are you doing with the Word inside? If you are running, it means that you doubt. When you go to someone to ask for the LORD’S direction for you when you have a Word, you are actually saying that you doubt God. Get quiet and get before God and hear on the inside what God said. Is it the place where God said you must be?

Get a Word before you do a thing and obey it. When you have a Word before you do the thing, then it is easy to get a proceeding Word when you are in the thing.
