The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit
Therefore, since the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us be careful that none of you be found to have fallen short of it. 2 For we also have had the good news proclaimed to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because they did not share the faith of those who obeyed.Hebrews 4: 1-2
Remember, there is a promise and a rest. Just have a look at what Paul says in Acts 20:20, he defended himself against the persecution and tells them I withheld nothing for you that was profitable, preaching the word. So the word, the promise and the rest is all profitable to us. This is not a prosperity gospel, but a profitable gospel. Now on touching the promise go with me through Acts.
The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach, 2 Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen: 3 To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God: 4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me. 5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence. 6 When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel? 7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power. 8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.Acts 1: 1-8
Jesus commands them through the Holy Ghost, then appears to them and tells them there is a promise coming soon… just wait till you receive the power of the promise.
They were filled with the Holy Ghost and began to witness in all languages.
The spirit is the presence of God that is omnipresent. Note here that they didn’t speak in their heavenly language but they literally spoke in other languages. So all the people from all over were gathered there and they spoke to them in their home language. Selah.
The power of the spirit will enable you to operate outside of the limitations of your knowledge.
The apostles were witnesses through the Holy Spirit – they have done their part. Now what is our role with the holy spirit – what is the promise for us?
The Ghost has a personal relation to His purpose and presence within us.
And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:Matthew 3:16
The Spirit, the promise gives the power, so what power did Jesus operate in when he was tempted in the desert, human vs spiritual reaction.
Think about this: after the Spirit descended upon Jesus and God said this is my Son in whom i am well pleased, the Spirit immediately led him into the desert to be tempted. Makes one to think about what James says, “count it all joy when you fall into divers trials and temptation – it matures your faith”
Going on with the promise lets go to John
Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. 2 In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. 4 And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know. 5 Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way? 6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. 7 If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him. 8 Philip saith unto him, Lord, show us the Father, and it sufficeth us. 9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Show us the Father? 10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. 11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake.John 14: 1-11
Stop for a moment. Jesus states here he is preparing a place, and then he will receive you and me unto himself in that place. So if He is in the Father then that place unto which we are received is in the Father.
Lets carry on reading…
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. 13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it. 15 If ye love me, keep my commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. 18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. 19 Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also. 20 At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.John 14: 12-20
Whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do
The rest is not like having a great holiday, it is operating out of a place called there. When we are in the Father we have all the resources of the Father.
I see it in this way, right now we are working, we are moving. Somethings happen easier than others but still, everything we have to do has to done by planning and making financial plans. But when we step into ‘that place’ there is everything required in order to do the work. Hence working out of a place of rest.
Think about it, how all things become possible through the strength of Jesus Christ. No more sitting back because of restrictions, no more worries about financial shortage. That’s the Promise, that’s the rest.
Take Paul for example, in acts 19 we find the sons of Skeva, and how they looked at Paul and what he did. They tried to replicate it but ended up getting whipped by the demons, and one demon said: Jesus we know and Paul we know, but who are you. Clearly Paul knew the Spirit within him and the place he was in, therefore he could operate in the kingdom without struggling to perform.
The Promise, The Rest
When you are in the Father, they (the demons and everything else) will see the Father, but when you try to replicate the Father with your human nature and natural reasoning it will reveal itself to the world around you. But if you operate in that place then John 14 comes in:
And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.John 14:13
All glory belongs to the Father.
Some noteworthy scriptures:
- John 16:7 – It is good for you that i leave
- Heb 4:1 – While the promise remains – rest
- 1 Tim 4:14 – The gift of laying on of hands
- Acts 1 – Wait for the promise
- Zec 4:6.
anyone that does not have the spirit of God belongs not to him!Romans 8:9
The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen.2 Corinthians 13:14
Paul makes it vitally important to have fellowship and communion in the Holy Spirit, then after greetings in Galatians you find Paul saying that he is physically being transformed into the person of the son. In Galatians 6 Paul says: “I bear the marks of Christ in my body,” so he was changed into the person of Christ. Now taking that into consideration, have a look at Romans 12 – to be transformed into the person of the Son puts you in the Spirit and referring back to John 12 again he says; I have prepared a place and I will bring unto my self (that place).
The Spirit is a Place
Instead of waiting for an extraterrestrial experience of helping from the Holy Spirit one has to recognize that your spirit is the Holy Spirit.
Jesus states: I am in the Father and the Father is in me, you are in me and I in you. So the Father is in all, connected by one thing, the SPIRIT.
The Holy Spirit is a person, but more than that the Holy Spirit is a place. You simply have to step into that place called there and operate out of that place.
